In short
- Your files are processed on your own device and are never uploaded.
- We never collect personal data, and never sell or share data.
- No accounts, no ads, no cookies. Only anonymous usage statistics.
This policy covers the PurrPDF browser extension and the website at purrpdf.com.
What happens to your files
PurrPDF compresses, merges, splits, organizes, signs, numbers, watermarks, unlocks, password-protects and converts PDF files. All of this happens inside your browser on your computer, in both the extension and the website. The files you open are never sent to us or to anyone else. We do not run any server that receives your files. Passwords you type into Unlock PDF or Protect PDF are used only inside your browser and are never stored or sent.
Information we collect
No personal information, browsing history, website content or file contents. The only information we receive is anonymous usage statistics (see below) and feedback you choose to send us.
Like any website, our hosting provider may keep standard technical server logs (such as IP address, browser type and the page requested) for security and reliability. We don’t use these logs to identify or track you.
Anonymous usage statistics
To learn which tools people use and what to improve, the website and the extension send anonymous usage statistics to our own, self-hosted analytics server (radar.linucat.com). No data goes to Google or any other third party.
- What is recorded: the page or extension screen that is opened (for example “Compress PDF”), which tool finished a job, install and update events, the extension version, your browser, operating system and device type, and your approximate country and city. On the website also the referring site, campaign tags (
utm_…), time on page and how far you scrolled. - What is never recorded: your files, file names or file contents, passwords, signatures, or the addresses, titles and contents of the websites you visit.
- No cookies and no identifier stored on your device. Your IP address is used only in memory, at the moment of the visit, to estimate your location and to count daily visitors with a code that changes every day. It is never saved, so you can’t be recognized from one day to the next.
- Retention: individual events are deleted after 14 days. After that only totals remain (for example “120 people used Merge PDF on 3 March”).
Information stored on your device
If you tick “Remember on this device” when adding a signature, the signature image is saved in your browser’s local storage (chrome.storage.local in the extension, localStorage on the website). It stays on your device, is never synced or transmitted, and you can delete it any time with the Forget button or by clearing your browser data.
The website sets no cookies.
Contact form and feedback
If you use the contact form or the short survey shown after uninstalling the extension, we store only what you submit: the type of message, your answer and message, your email address if you choose to give it, the page you sent it from and the extension version. We use this only to reply to you and improve PurrPDF.
- Messages are stored in a database at our hosting provider, Cloudflare, and deleted after 12 months.
- To block spam, we count messages per sender per day using a one-way, salted fingerprint of the IP address. The IP address itself is never stored, and the counts are deleted the next day.
- Never send documents or sensitive personal details through the form.
- To have your message deleted sooner, email [email protected].
When you uninstall the extension, your browser opens our goodbye page with the extension version in the address. Answering the survey there is optional.
Extension permissions
| Permission | Why it’s needed |
|---|---|
contextMenus | Adds “Open in PurrPDF” to the right-click menu on PDF links. |
storage | Saves your signature on your device, only if you choose to. |
| Website access (optional) | Never granted at install. When you open a PDF from a website through the right-click menu, the extension asks for access to that one site so it can read the PDF. The file is then processed locally. |
Third parties
We do not sell, transfer or share user data with third parties. PurrPDF uses the open-source libraries pdf.js (Mozilla), pdf-lib and qpdf. They are bundled with PurrPDF, run locally, and do not send data anywhere.
Children
PurrPDF does not collect personal data from anyone, including children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
